Apple's WWDC 2017 will return to San Jose in June

Apple has confirmed when its annual developer conference – WWDC – will be held in 2017

Apple has announced that its Worldwide Developer Conference will be taking place this year between June 5-9. The event will take place in San Jose, California at the McEnery Convention Center.

San Jose's McEnery Convention Center is hosting this year's WWDC.

The last six years Apple has handed developers an iOS SDK (software development kit) at June's WWDC, then unveiled new iPhones in September (2012-2016) or October (2011). Schiller said he expects WWDC 2017 to be about the same size as previous conferences-about 5,000 developers and 1,000 engineers. However, Apple is apparently working with the city of San Jose and local businesses to organize a series of "very special experiences" that will play out across the local area throughout the week. Google moved its own developer conference from San Francisco to Mountain View last year, and Facebook is also relocating f8 from San Francisco to San Jose this year. The event will give developers the chance to meet and engage with more than 1,000 Apple engineers.

WWDC 17 is where Apple is expected to unveil iOS 11, macOS 10.13 as well as updates to tvOS and watchOS. This is actually the original home of WWDC where the event was hosted until 2002.

Tickets will be available through the customary lottery system, which opens March 27 at 10 a.m. Pacific.

WWDC typically doesn't feature any hardware announcements; Apple tends to introduce the next version of the iPhone and other hardware at a separate press event in September. Those that can't make it can still watch a select number of the more than 100 technical sessions through a live stream, including the initial keynote where the more relevant announcements happen.

To get tickets you'll need to be a registered Apple Developer Program and Apple Developer Enterprise Program member as of February 16, 2017, by 5:30 AM pacific time.
