Ben Affleck Reportedly Wants to Quit Playing Batman Altogether

The Deal

Poor Warner Brothers, they can't seem to catch a break when it comes to the caped crusader.

Speaking on USA website Collider's Movie Talk podcast Canadian film journalist John Campea, claimed he had been told by insiders the 44-year-old was looking to negotiate an exit from the role. "It has become clear that I can not do both jobs to the level they require", Affleck said in a statement on Monday. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker's hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up. Siri offers a number of lines in response, including "How can I help you, Lego Batman" and "Welcome home, sir".

While this is very much still unconfirmed, similar rumors also started circling before Warner announced that Affleck would be stepping down as the Batman movie's director.

Host of Collider Movie Talk, John Campea, reignited speculation that all is not well at Wayne Manor earlier this week by quoting "three spirit people" from inside Warner Bros as saying Affleck wanted to quit the DC superheroes franchise. With directing duties now officially falling to Cloverfield director Matt Reeves, the coming months will reveal whether or not Affleck will be abandoning The Dark Knight once again.

He explained that if a settlement is reached over Ben's departure, the forthcoming Batman movie could be his last as the character.
