SC white supremacist dreamed of Roof-style attack

South Carolina man with white supremacist ties planned a shooting 'in the spirit of Dylann Roof'

"The FBI says he then called the agent again, I just be plotting it out, like, I mean you just run up there on them if they back there partying, and all, with a f--ing AK and rip them sumbitches down, and throw, a dam something at them". The 29-year-old also had tattoos indicating affiliation with the extremist groups, according to the complaint. "I want something where I can say, "I fucking did that".me personally".

He also criticized fellow white supremacists for failing to take action, writing that they "ain't got the heart to fight for Yahweh like dylann roof", the white supremacist who gunned down nine parishioners at a SC black church in 2015.

The post references Roof, the self-proclaimed white supremacist who massacred nine black people attending Bible study at a Charleston, South Carolina, church in 2015.

Prior to the meet, the man had been 'ranting' online about his desire to commit an attack and targeted much of his hatred against Jews.

Court records show that since 2008, McDowell has several convictions for burglary and a conviction for assault. He followed that January 5 with a post slamming those who failed to care about their white race like Roof did.

On January 6, the Federal Bureau of Investigation found a message from McDowell on Facebook Instant Messenger revealing that he requested an "iron", a coded term for a gun.

McDowell met with an undercover FBI agent on January 12 believing the agent "handled problems for the Aryan Nations", according to the federal complaint.

The FBI agent and McDowell discussed getting a gun and McDowell emphasized that he did not want to get caught and sent back to jail. "I got the heart to do this", he said, according to the criminal complaint. He also told the operative that he had not selected the time or location for the attack. He requested either a.38 or.40-caliber weapon, and it was agreed that the undercover agent would get McDowell a.40-caliber Glock.

In a Facebook post weeks later, he said Jews were part of a plot to wipe out the white race.

"Warriors like we was born to be like Dylan roof but we gotta do it in a smart away and it takes a team." the post read. The plan was that the undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation agent would take McDowell to his grandfather's house to borrow money to purchase the weapon and ammunition. On Feb. 11, they made plans to meet in Conway, where McDowell would get money for the purchase and outline his plans for the attack over lunch.

Benjamin McDowell, 29, was arrested in Myrtle Beach shortly after buying the.40-caliber Glock and ammunition for $109 from the agent who picked him up at his mother's house, then took him to his grandfather's house to get the money, Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Grant Lowe wrote in an affidavit.
