USA detains Mexican man despite work permit

Protestors against deportation and immigration raids close off a section of Aliso Street in downtown L.A. on Feb. 9 2017

News spread Tuesday that immigration officials had arrested 23-year-old Daniel Ramirez Medina last week at his father's home in Des Moines, and that he filed a federal lawsuit Monday in Seattle arguing for his release.

Ramirez was at home on Friday when ICE agents knocked on his family's door intending to arrest his father, his attorneys said.

"DACA recipients have been vetted", Sen. Some 750,000 are in the country under the DACA programme.

A 23-year-old Mexican man who was brought to the U.S. illegally at the age of seven has been arrested and detained, despite having a valid work permit.

The agents then took Ramirez to a processing center in Seattle, where his attorneys say he again told them about his work permit, which he had in his wallet.

Medina is the reportedly the first DACA recipient to be detained by ICE and now open borders groups are demanding his release.

Are we a country that honors its promises?

"He was pressured to say that he was in a gang", Rosenbaum said.

Attorneys for Ramirez could not immediately be reached for comment.

"ICE conducts these kind of targeted enforcement operations regularly and has for many years", Kelly said, adding the focus of these enforcement operations is consistent with actions carried out by ICE's Fugitive Operations teams on a daily basis.

Trump can withdraw the promised protection right away through an "operational memo" because Obama implemented it through one, William Stock, president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, said previously.

Trump campaigned on the progress to halt undocumented immigration, particularly from Mexico, and to roll back Obama-era programs that provide amnesty to immigrants already living in the country. This treatment apparently contradicts a statement made last month by President Donald Trump, who told ABC News his administration was drafting policy on how to deal with DACA-protected immigrants.

They are still considered to be illegal immigrants, but have temporary status - which the government says can be revoked at any time, at federal agents' discretion. "They shouldn't be very anxious", Trump said of the "Dreamers".

"I do have a big heart", he said.

'We're going to work something out that's going to make people happy and proud, ' he said. "We heard for the first time yesterday this claim that he admitted he's a gang member", he said.

Under DACA, the government collected information including participants' addresses that potentially could be used to locate and deport them if the program is reversed.

"We can not faithfully execute the immigration laws of the United States if we exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement", the order states. Ramirez had recently moved to Washington from California, where he had attended school, and he has a 3-year-old son, who is a US citizen. When is any bond hearing scheduled to occur?

Last week, ICE agents arrested 680 people in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, San Antonio and New York City. When they entered, they asked Ramirez if he was in the country legally, and Ramirez said he had a work permit, the lawsuit stated.

He says he's known Ramirez Medina, his father, and his brother for several years.
