Uber's president quits, cites differences in leadership, beliefs

The company has lost a prominent top executive, President Jeff Jones, who was overseeing its branding, customer support and operations divisions. Oh, and a few weeks ago, the company was caught using a program that would identify possible investigators and employees of rival ride-sharing companies and show them a fake version of the app that prevented them from getting rides.

Jones is not the only executive leaving the company.

He signed off by saying the company has "thousands of fantastic people at the company" and he wishes everyone at the company well. So when Kalanick announced earlier this month that he would hire a chief operating officer to help him run the company, Jones's role came into question. "It is unfortunate that this was announced through the press". Jones' previous associates at Target apparently weren't that surprised at his sudden resignation from Uber, painting the picture of a person who shies away from conflict. Kalanick recently found himself the star of a video showing him losing his temper with one of the company's drivers on a security camera. At the beginning of March 2017, another high-level executive resigned, namely Charlie Miller - Uber's Vice President for product and growth.

According to Recode, Jones spent time meeting with drivers in an attempt to better understand their circumstances, communicating with them via email on what Uber's plans were. It also makes it clear that Uber clearly has its work cut out for it in fixing its internal issues and culture. The company deliberately turned off surge pricing during a taxi strike at at major airports around the country. That's the No. 1 request from drivers.

In related news, Brian McClendon's decision leaves Uber in another tough spot.

The turmoil began when a former Uber employee posted a blog describing that Uber had a bad working environment, where sexual harassment was led unpunished.

That bombshell led to reportedly emotional in-house meetings in which Kalanick admitted the company needed to change its culture.

Uber, which is not publicly traded, is worth about $70 billion and operates in dozens of countries.

But that rapid ascent has been marked by controversy. (NYSE: JPM)'s CEO Jamie Dimon and Jack Welch, the former CEO of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) who is considered to be one of the most highly respected CEOs in corporate history. Graves now heads up the company's delivery business, UberEverything. Uber's decision effectively lowered the cost of a ride on its service.

To top it all off, Uber is also facing a lawsuit from Alphabet-owned company Waymo alleging the vehicle service company stole their designs for its self-driving auto technology known as Lidar.
