Cetin was born in Turkey, but had lived in the USA since the age of six. Asked during interviews whether his Turkish relatives had ties to terrorist groups, Cetin said no.

Cetin was in the midst of mental health evaluations to determine whether he was fit to stand trial. Police later learned from Cetin's father that he drove a blue Chevrolet Cavalier.

He was inside the mall for about a minute during the shooting spree, investigators said.

The victims - Sarai Lara, Shayla Martin, Belinda Galde, Beatrice Dotson, and Wilton Eagan - ranged in ages from 16 to 95 years old. Cetin moved his auto closer to an entrance at Macy's, retrieved a rifle from the trunk of the vehicle, and walked back into the department store.

"From our perspective, (Cetin) did not let justice take its course", Weyrich told the Skagit Valley Herald.
