The leader of the Environmental Protection Agency is scheduled to tour an IN public-housing complex where roughly 1,000 people were ordered evacuated because of lead contamination.

"They made pleas for assistance, for help", he said.

"We're the front line".

The NAACP also has several events planned.

Republican Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb on February 9 issued a 30-day executive order declaring a state of emergency in the Superfund site and later extended the order an additional 30 days. Pruitt is the first EPA administrator to visit the site, according to EPA officials. Todd Young, both Republicans, as well as the local U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky and Sen.

"The Mercury and Air Toxics Standards has already had far-reaching and costly impacts not only on our industry but on many states and their citizens whose assurance of reliable electricity supply has been cast in doubt by this rule", the group has argued.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt stated, "This action is another example of EPA implementing President Trump's vision of being good stewards of our natural resources, while not developing regulations that hurt our economy and kill jobs".

"The East Chicago emerging drinking water crisis shows how fraught Pruitt's scheme really is for public health". Some held signs that read "East Chicago Demands Clean Water".

In all three cases, the EPA is considering rewriting the regulations.

On March 24 the Utility Water Group petitioned the agency through court to reconsider the rule.

There has been no reports on the second EPA regional office that the Trump administration may consider dissolving.

"The alleged closure was just a hoax - there's no information whatsoever that supports these rumors", EPA spokesman J.P. Freire said. The land we walk upon is contaminated. "And a lot of times, it's too late [at that point]".
