IMac Refresh in Q3 2017, 'Server-Grade' iMac to Launch by Year-End

More so, Apple also confirmed it is now working closely on an iMac for Pro users, which is likely to debut end of this year. Recent reports claim that Apple will launch the new iMac this year. Reportedly, the Cupertino-based company will release server-grade iMac with Xeon CPU by Q3 of 2017.

Apple has already confirmed it is working on new iMac models for release later this year, but today's report offers another hint at what could be in store for creative pros and puts a more specific timeframe on those plans. However, these are just the details revealed by Apple and no further information about specification and availability was said.

Moreover, given the ECC memory modules in these new variants, the capacity of these ECC RAMs is believed to be in the range of 16 up to 64GB, as ECC memory works in such a way that it can determine any errors and corrupted data, and fix them which is not the case with the consumer grade RAMs. The Mac maker is also said to be testing a new "server-grade" iMac Pro variants for the high-end market. For graphics, Apple is expected to outfit its new iMac with the "latest discrete graphics card". The report also claims that Apple will utilise NVMe SSD solutions for storage, with options going all the way up to 2TB. Current iMac uses mobile versions of GPU parts, a particular frustration of many high-end professional Mac users. The high-end iMac is prepping up to compete with the Surface Studio all-in-one PC, which was announced past year aiming design and creative professionals.

The two new iMacs for 2017 are expected to be manufactured by Quanta Computer. The company might use the new AMD GPUs and USB-C ports too.
