Jeter, Bush join forces in bid to buy Marlins

Report: Jeb Bush, Jeter Combine Bid to Buy MLB's Marlins

Derek Jeter reportedly has a new teammate - Jeb Bush - and it's all in an effort to buy the Miami Marlins.

According to the Miami Herald, the Yankees great and the former presidential candidate have teamed up to strengthen their chances. It's not clear if any other groups are in the running.

Jeter retired from baseball after 20 seasons with the Yankees in 2014.

Jeb Bush participates in the Fox Business Network Republican presidential debate on January 14, 2016, in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Marlins president David Samson last week termed the sales process for the Marlins "in the fourth inning".

In December, Mike Ozanian of Forbes reported the asking price by Loria was $1.7 billion, even though the outlet listed the organization at $940 million in its annual valuations.

Jeter and Bush initially were listed as members of separate investment groups when news broke earlier this month about Loria entertaining offers for the franchise, which moved into a new stadium known as Marlins Park in Miami's "Little Havana" section in 2012. "I think baseball is taking somewhat of a back seat to some of the other sports". "I think kids nowadays, they look at players playing in college and the next year they're in the National Football League or the NBA", he said. "But there is life after baseball, and sometimes the opportunity that presents itself is not always necessarily where you played". "Kids in this generation are into instant gratification". As a player, Jeter made about $266 million from the Yankees. Just before retiring, he founded The Players' Tribune, a website featuring content written by professional athletes.

Jeter had a famous interaction with George W. Bush before the then-president threw out the first pitch at Game 3 of the 2001 World Series, seven weeks after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
