Marlins' Chen, Ziegler no-hitting Mariners through 8 innings

Boston Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz delivers a pitch in the first inning of a baseball game against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday

A night after breaking up a potential no-hitter with a ninth-inning double, Haniger scored in the first inning, had a two-run single in the second and clanged a two-run double off the wall in deep center field in the fourth. It came against reliever Kyle Barraclough after Wei-Yin Chen and Brad Ziegler held the Mariners hitless.

Chen, who dealt with elbow issues last season, was lifted after throwing his 100th pitch to complete the seventh inning.

On Wei-Yin Chen's no-hit possibility: "Tonight's was different than the other day, I thought we felt like we were close and had a good shot tonight, once we got through the eighth there and they hit a couple of those dribblers and we were able to get outs".

That was it, though. Barraclough struck out Robinson Cano before ending the game by retiring Nelson Cruz on a fly to right.

PLAY (S) OF THE GAME: Prado tested Dyson after the Marlins loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning.

There has been plenty of fanfare surrounding this series as the Mariners pulled out the red carpet on Monday to celebrate his passing of the 3,000-hit mark, becoming only the 30th person in Major League Baseball history to do so.

Ichiro Suzuki, a member of the Seattle Mariners for 11 seasons, returned to Safeco Field for what potentially could have been his final game in front of the Seattle faithful.

Miami first baseman Justin Bour had two hits, including a two-run, opposite field homer off a Gallardo fastball in the third, his second of the year.

Athletics 4, Rangers 2: Andrew Triggs allowed three hits over six innings to outpitch Yu Darvish, and Oakland beat Texas.

Kyle Seager struck out by chasing an outside fastball on a 1-2 count, and Chen then nursed his no-hitter - and shutout - into the eighth inning by retiring Taylor Motter on a pop to third. His two-run single erased a one-run deficit in the second inning, and his two-run double fueled a four-run fourth that boosted the lead to 8-4.

It got better after that.

Miami Marlins' Wei-Yin Chen throws to a Seattle Mariners batter during the sixth inning of a baseball game, Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in Seattle.

Angels 5, Astros 2: Albert Pujols hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the fifth inning to give Los Angeles a victory over Houston and snap a six-game skid. He stepped up to the plate and blasted a home run to right field.

The Marlins manufactured a run in the second as Derek Dietrich and A.J. Ellis led off the inning with back-to-back singles.
