Nintendo Stops Production of The NES Classic For 2017

As reported on Kotaku, Nintendo has abruptly chose to end production of the NES Classic in western markets, effectively killing one of its most popular products in years. "NES Classic Edition wasn't meant to be an ongoing, long-term product".

Nintendo announced today that its NES Classic mini console, which features a handful of built-in classic Nintendo games, will have its final shipments to retailers this month.

"We understand that it has been hard for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize", a Nintendo representative told IGN.

So, get hunting folks - let us know where you see them for sale in the wild - otherwise, let the eBay bidding wars begin! "When production is being resumed, we will tell you on our website", wrote a Nintendo Japan representative. The demand for the NES Classic has always been there. Now the product, in this case the NES Classic Edition, will become more expensive, and that extra cash will not be in the hands of Nintendo, but instead on the secondary market. Nintendo states that North American fans will receive their last stock of NES Classic Mini in the month of April. Whatever the reason, it is important to note that Nintendo NES Classic Edition will not be around anymore.

Upon its launch in late 2016, the NES Classic was a strong sales performer for Nintendo.

The bad news for those of you who've still been actively trying to purchase the NES Classic is that the seemingly impossible-to-find system is now going to be really impossible to find.

Nintendo claims they have listened to consumer feedback. The company made no statement about the console's availability outside of North America.

If the infamous NES Classic shortages gave you blue balls, then get ready for a doozy.

Similarly in Japan, official notice has been given that the Famicom Classic Edition has ceased production.
