Health officials: Oklahoma death toll from flu stands at 90

A state survey of clinics, hospitals and health departments found that about 4 percent of visits were for flu-like illnesses last week, down from a peak of almost 8 percent of visits in late February.

The three deaths now push the total number of flu fatalities in DE to 14.

State health officials announced three more flu-related deaths, pushing this season's total to 14, more than double last year's total of six. In the 2011-2012 season, only 9 people died of flu, compared to 218 two years ago. Health officials were not able to verify his vaccination status.

The department's data show that 62 of the deaths occurred in patients who were 65-years-old or older.

The OSDH reports that 2,273 people have been hospitalized during the flu season that began October 2, 2016, 21 of those in the last week. Seventeen deaths occurred in those between 50 and 64-years-old, while eight deaths occurred in patients between 18 and 49-years-old.

Tulsa County has had 20 deaths.

Oklahoma County has seen 13 deaths and 405 hospitalizations related to the virus.
