Princess Victoria Breaks Down in Tears While Visiting Stockholm Terrorist Attack Site

Truck Crashes into Swedish Shopping Center, Killing 4

The incident sent shock waves through the country. The king cut short a visit to Brazil on Friday to return home.

Police arrested the man at the wheel of a white van, media said, and placed him under arrest on suspicion of "terrorist crime (by committing) murder".

"Seven people have been brought in for questioning as a result of these events", Jonas Hysing, national head of police operations, told public broadcaster SVT, after several raids on addresses around Stockholm over the weekend.

Officials said the man they now have in custody matches the description of a person of interest, but have not confirmed if he was the driver.

Mr Eliasson said: A technical examination is ongoing, we can't go into what it is right now... whether it's a bomb or a flammable device. The rally, held close to the scene of the atrocity, included a minute's silence exactly 48 hours after the lorry ploughed through a crowd and into a department store.

Residents gathered near a memorial to the attack's victims.

The statement said the two leaders agreed on the importance of working together to tackle these threats.

In London last month, a man in a vehicle ploughed into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, killing four, and then stabbed a policeman to death before being shot dead by police. Four people died, including the attacker.

The attack shattered any sense Swedes had of being insulated from the militant violence that has hit other parts of Europe, raising questions about whether the police and security services could have done more to prevent it. Earlier, Karolinska Hospital had reported nine people still in the hospital. It said two were in intensive care, four were seriously injured but the one child was not seriously hurt.

A concrete traffic stopper called "Stockholmslejon" lays on its side outside the cordoned off area next to the department store Ahlens following a suspected terror attack on the Drottninggatan Street in central Stockholm, Sweden, Saturday April 8, 2017.

"The aim of terrorism is to undermine democracy, to sow discord between people, so that more people will begin to hate and distrust one another", he said.

Police have not named the suspected driver of the truck, whom they arrested on Friday evening, but authorities said he was known to Sweden's intelligence service for undisclosed reasons.
