Samsung Fails to Deliver Bixby Voice Assistant with Galaxy S8 at Launch

SAMSUNG HAS ADMITTED that its much-hyped Bixby artificial intelligence (AI) assistant won't be fully ready when the Galaxy S8 starts shipping next week. "Bixby Voice will be available in the United States on the Galaxy S8 later this spring", Samsung's statement reads.

As Android Police reports, the Home feature is a clone of the Google Now feed while Vision represents the augmented-reality camera feature and Reminder feature is used for setting reminders.

After a bungled recall that cost the company more than $5 billion and ultimately led it to kill off of the Note 7, analysts have said Samsung needs a flawless launch for the S8. "Bixby Voice will be available in the US on the Galaxy S8 later this spring".

This setback isn't such bad news for Brits, though.

Bixby was positioned as perhaps the second most important addition to the Galaxy line during the unveiling, behind only the S8's bezel-less display.

The Samsung refuse to spoke the reason why the voice assistant feature was being delayed. It was dubbed as one of the most exciting features on the Galaxy S8, giving competition to Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana, Amazon's Alexa, and Google Assistant.

The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that internal tests conducted at Samsung revealed Bixby's voice recognition performance in English lagged behind its form in Korean.

Samsung now says that Bixby Voice will arrive later this spring.

The new flagships are expected to go on sale this month in a variety of markets globally, but it might be missing the new voice assistant.

Bixby was introduced as the headline feature of the Galaxy S8 when it was unveiled in late March, with the smartphone featuring a dedicated button on the left side to activate the feature.

Owners will have to wait till spring 2017 to take Bixby Voice for a spin.
