Sony launches impressive new Alpha A9 mirrorless full-frame camera

Sony a9 announced

Sony says this burst capability comes courtesy of a new 24.2 megapixel full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor, hooked up to a new BIONZ X processing engine.

"This camera breaks through all barriers and limitations of today's professional digital cameras, with an overall feature set that simply can not be matched considering the restrictions of mechanical SLR cameras", said Neal Manowitz in a press release.

/PRNewswire/ Sony Electronics, a worldwide leader in digital imaging and the world's largest image sensor manufacturer, has today introduced their new revolutionary digital camera, the 9 (model ILCE-9).

The α9 will start shipping in Europe from June 2017, priced at approximately €5,300. The battery in the A9 is an all-new unit, with 2.2 times the capacity of the one it replaces, and there are dual SD card slots rather than the single slot you'll find on the A7.

Resource is now attending the Sony launch event for this gear, and will update this post with more information. With no less than 693 points that cover an impressive 93% of the frame, you're certainly spoilt for choice!

There's also vibration-free shooting at speeds up to 1/32,000 sec with a fully electronic and silent shutter, along with a 5-axis image stabilisation system.

Sony is going on the offensive in the camera market, launching its new Alpha A9 camera - the most expensive, feature-rich mirrorless camera yet. It won't blackout during shooting, even at 20fps - that'll give you "all the benefits of an electronic viewfinder. that not even the finest optical viewfinders can match", Sony claims.

The Sony α9 full-frame mirror-less camera is the latest addition to the company's hugely popular interchangeable camera line-up. There is a control joystick on the rear along with drive and focus mode dials. And finally, at long last, the screen is also touch sensitive, which can be used for some elements of operation, including operating the auto-focus in Live View.

Said one panelist, noting the plethora of features on the 9 and its companion lens, "this camera is one-stop shopping".

Minutes ago, Sony announced the new Alpha 9 flagship with and a new G Master telephoto lens. ZEISS T and fluorine coatings keep glares to a minimum and make the glass dust-resistant.
