Tesla's Model S 100D Nails EPA Ratings As Claimed!

FSMNews

Not only does one have to take into account a $7,500 federal income tax credit, but many states offer additional incentives and tax rebates that vary considerably. Tesla may giveth, but Tesla also taketh away - the Model S 75 can no longer be had with smart air suspension, but the remaining variants can still opt for it.

Monday's announced reductions come the day after the least expensive Tesla, the Model S 60 was discontinued.

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) Model S was available with a 60 kWh battery pack, the cheapest version of the vehicle for the owners. Model S 70 owners have also chimed in with their reports that Tesla is offering a 5 kWh range upgrade for just $500. Effective April 24, the Model S 100D will run $98,700 (up $5,000), while the Model X 100D will run $100,700 (up $1,000), according to a Tesla spokesperson.

For those owners of an upgradeable 70kWh Model S (that is, the "facelifted" version - previous 70kWh cars did not come with a software-limited battery and thus can not be upgraded), the upgrade from 70 - 75kWh is now just $500, down from $3,500 prior.

Tesla's automotive gross profit margin is particularly important as the company brings its Model 3 to market later this year.

Despite reducing the cost of some vehicles, Tesla is actually increasing the price of its 100D and P100D versions starting April 24.

"Periodically we have adjusted pricing and available options to best reflect the value of our products and our customers' preferences", Tesla said today in a press release. The sunroof option is still available on the Model S, at $2,000. We expect our total average selling price to remain nearly exactly the same. The downfall in price is the aftermath of discontinuing the sales of 60kWh model, whose production stopped recently after the last stock sold out. The most dramatic price increase, on the other hand, is on the Model X P100D, which is going from $135,500 to $145,000.

With its 335 miles rating, the Model S 100D sits 20 miles above the Model S P100D.
