USA carrier heading toward Korean Peninsula

As tensions mounted between the United States and North Korea, US Pacific Command and members of the Trump administration said that the USS Carl Vinson would head north for the Western Pacific from Singapore, instead of Australia as previously planned. Defense News notes photos posted from the carrier put it thousands of miles from the peninsula and traveling in the opposite direction.

The move was apparently made over fears North Korea would carry out a sixth nuclear test.

"Third Fleet ships operate forward with a goal: to safeguard US interests in the Western Pacific".

The April 15th snapshot showed Carl Vinson, which is accompanied by two guided-missile destroyers, between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra, and not in the Sea of Japan, as indicated by the White House.

U.S. aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson left Singapore on April 8 and was said to be heading toward North Korea. The next day, the U.S.

Harry Harris said the carrier strike group was headed north to the Western Pacific after departing Singapore on April 8.

His words came after the North held a show of military might in a parade over the weekend and tested another missile on Sunday, which blew up nearly immediately after launch, the Pentagon said.

In the 88 years since President Hoover named a former Minneapolis Tribune reporter as the first White House press secretary, nobody who has held that job has stumbled as quickly or dramatically as Sean Spicer. "We will continue to be the centrepiece of visible maritime deterrence, providing our national command authority with flexible deterrent options, all domain access, and a visible forward presence". It's prudent. But it does a lot of things.

"We can not comment on details of USA operation of its assets", a military official said in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. On multiple occasions, the public was told that the Carl Vinson was directly headed near North Korea.

In an interview that aired April 12 on Fox Business Network, President Donald Trump was asked about the redirection of the ships.

"What are we doing right now in terms of North Korea?"

"You never know, do you?"

"The president said that we have an armada going toward the peninsula", Spicer said.

However, US Vice President Mike Pence was undeterred as he spoke aboard the USS Ronald Reagan - an aircraft carrier docked in Japan - during his tour of the region, vowing to "defeat any attack and meet any use of conventional or nuclear weapons with an overwhelming and effective American response". This contradicts earlier announcements by US authorities that the supercarrier strike group was heading towards the Korean Peninsula amid possibilities of North Korean provocations.

Analysts said at the time that the carrier group's goal could be to shoot down "some number" of ballistic missiles if they were fired by North Korea.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un responded with his own fiery warnings and threatened to conduct weekly missile tests.

"China is very concerned about this new development", said Lu and urged all parties to work jointly and take concrete measures to de-escalate the tension. The Times reports defense officials "described a glitch-ridden sequence of events" that led to the reports.
