When Will Super Nintendo Mini Launch?

In 1985 those bikes were exciting

Hot on the heels of news that Nintendo has made a decision to end production of its coveted (and, many would argue, artificially limited) NES Classic Edition miniature console, the company has now turned its attention to a sequel of sorts, if recent reports are to be believed.

The SNES Classic Mini is Nintendo's miniature version of its iconic 16-bit "Super Nintendo Entertainment System".

The NES Classic is an impossibly small version of the original Nintendo console, one that works seamlessly with a modern TV and features 30 games built right in. That would presumably include Nintendo's first-party classics like Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, and Super Metroid, along with a smattering of third-party standouts.

Nintendo may soon follow up its popular NES Classic with another nostalgic mini-gaming console: SNES Classic. It's believed that the launch of the SNES Classic Mini played a role in the discontinuation of the NES Classic Mini. Why? It worked great, looked cool and was the flawless Christmas stocking filler, it's a mystery why we won't see any more of these consoles. However, Nintendo chose not to make enough of them initially, then chose not to react to that demand, and then took the head-scratching decision to discontinue the product last week. Due to the popularity of the console, it came as a surprise when Nintendo announced that it would be discontinuing the NES Classic after only a few months in circulation. For reference, Nintendo's official price for the NES Classic Mini is $60/£50.

Nintendo's success playing to the nostalgia crowd comes as its new hybrid console, Nintendo Switch, is off to a nice start of its own. The games also received complete graphical overhauls to look in line with other Super Nintendo games.

SNES Classic Mini - What is it?

None of this has been confirmed by Nintendo; we've reached out for comment and have yet to hear back.

The NES Classic has been very hard to find in stores and online since its reemergence in November a year ago.
