Amazon Drops Free Shipping Minimum to $25

Amazon Drops Free Shipping Minimum to $25

In a bid to counteract Walmart's aggressive tactics, Amazon has announced that it is dropping the price requirement for free shipping to $25. BestBlackFriday alerted us to the change. These customers have to order online and pick up their items at a Wal-Mart location.

This is the second time this year that Amazon has lowered the free shipping threshold. "ORCRP000672-topic.html" class="local_link" >Amazon.com has knocked 10 bucks off the minimum price to get items shipped for free.

Amazon is fighting back against Walmart by dropping its free shipping minimum requirement down to $25.

Amazon already offers free two-day shipping under its $99 Prime membership program but the new offer is aimed at encouraging more customers to shop on its platform.

Amazon's free shipping offer extends to non-prime members.

Wal-Mart's not the only retailer rolling out new programs in order to compete - Target is trying to get in on the action too. No membership fee is necessary. Prime has proved to be an incredibly powerful force in retail: When shoppers sign up for Prime membership, their spending at Amazon tends to shoot through the roof. Amazon still needs to worry about Walmart's two day shipping though, wherein you receive whatever you order in 2-days.

Walmart has been investing heavily in ecommerce, but it has a long way to go before it catches up with Amazon. Walmart is still far ahead in terms of overall sales, however. Amazon has made two-day shipping a sort of consumer standard, and in most cases, that's good enough, even on the items Target has deemed essential.
