For anyone curious as to what Tesla vehicles featuring the company's next-gen hardware can do, the video below is well worth checking out. It took just half a year to recreate the technology that Mobileye took away from Tesla with its sudden departure.

The move to collect more video data comes after Tesla began pushing a new software update to remove numerous speed limit restrictions for Autosteer, the carmaker's semi-autonomous, driver-assist feature that is the main feature of Autopilot.

Last week, the automaker had released a new update for its vehicles equipped with second generation Autopilot hardware, and it asked the owners/users to approve the new data sharing policy, as reported on Electreck. It also does more to brake or steer to avoid an accident.

And it's true. While companies do their own self-driving testing to gather as much data as they can, when you use your own customers' cars as test vehicles, the opportunity - and the responsibility - to make them as safe as possible by gathering and applying as much data as possible is huge.

"In order for these features to work, Tesla measures the road segment data of all participating vehicles but in a way that does not identify you or your auto, and may share that with partners that contribute similar data to help us provide the service", Tesla writes in the release notes. But Tesla says it may share some of the video data it collects with its partners and suppliers. Now, drivers can use Autosteer at up to 90 miles per hour on highways, while the speed limit for off-highway use was removed. "In order to protect your privacy, we have ensured that there is no way to search our system for clips that are associated with a specific auto".

Tesla said it has leveraged remote diagnostics to help reduce mechanical fix times by 35 percent, and aims to improve on that metric even further.
