Asus ZenFone AR confirmed to arrive this summer

Unlike the Daydream View Google's rumoured headset with be a stand alone VR device meaning no phone or PC is required

What makes the ZenFone AR unique is that it's the first phone to support both Tango - Google's mobile augmented reality platform - and Daydream VR. Consumers didn't warm up to Lenovo's Phab2 Pro a year ago; therefore, it could've been possible for the ZenFone AR to be a Tango-ready device that consumers actually care about.

To complement AR and VR experiences, ASUS also bundled the phone with superior Hi-Res Audio and DTS Virtual Surround Sound systems. the ZenFone AR also benefits from a 23-megapixel main camera with f/2.0, optical image stabilization, 3x zoom, phase detection autofocus and depth & motion tracking sensors. For those who don't know much about the ZenFone AR - this phone is a beast! ASUS, however, didn't share anything further about the ZenFone AR today. The company recently announced more than 2 million students have already taken virtual field trips using its Cardboard VR headset. With this platform, Google aims to offer a platform to developers to create a wide variety of augmented reality experiences that range from indoor navigation, indoor mapping and environmental recognition.

The Expeditions AR mode will debut in schools later in the year as part of Google's Pioneer Program, which you can sign your school up to here. It also houses a 8MP front-facing camera.

While the large Super AMOLED Gorilla Glass 4 display has a solid resolution, the ZenFone AR has other impressive specs too, such as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 CPU and an Adreno 530 GPU. The device also is expected to run the Zen UI 3.0, Asus's own custom Android skin.

No pricing or specific release date beyond "summer" is being announced at this time.

For customers interested in the Asus Zenfone AR but do not want to be tied to a contract with Verizon, unlocked versions of the smartphone will also be sold through retailers.

Bavor said the service can be used now in select museums and Lowe's stores, able to guide users to an exact item using a VPS-enabled phone.
