China's 1st large homemade passenger jet taking to the skies

China Eastern Airlines will be the first carrier to operate the C919 when it completes testing and secures approval from China's aviation regulator.

The first large Chinese-made passenger jetliner has taken off on its maiden test flight, a symbolic milestone in China's long-term goal to break into the Western-dominated aircraft market.

Most of the flights will be on single-aisle jets like the C-919.

Comac's C919 narrowbody airliner made its debut flight from China's Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Friday, ending a year-and-a-half wait since its factory rollout in November 2015. China is touting the C919 as a rival to single. Most of its customers are state-owned Chinese airlines.

China's homegrown large passenger plane, the C919, took to the sky on Friday, according to Xinhua.

The narrow-body C919 jet - white with green and blue stripes - disappeared into the clouds after taking off from Pudong global airport in the commercial hub Shanghai as a crowd of thousands cheered, including top officials. The test pilots came down smiling from the plane, wearing orange overalls with the Chinese flag.

The successful flight of the indigenously-made aircraft made China the world's fourth jumbo jet producer after the US, Europe, and Russian Federation, the state media reported.

The C919 will be able to carry up to 168 passengers.

Gu Bin, an aviation expert from China's Aviation Industry Cooperation, told The Guardian that he predicted the C919 would "rip a hole" in the Airbus-Boeing duopoly. The company was set up with the approval of the State Council, and its joint investors are the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, along with Shanghai Guo Sheng Group, Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Aluminum Corporation of China, China Baowu Steel Group, and Sinochem.

Kushner family apologizes for mentioning White House adviser Jared Kushner
However, Trump actually signed an extension of the controversial visa program just one day before the event in Beijing was held. Kushner had been running the family business until he went to the White House in January as a senior adviser to the president.

Built by state-owned aerospace manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac), the plane represents almost a decade of effort in a government-mandated drive to reduce dependence on European consortium Airbus and U.S. aerospace giant Boeing.

The aircraft is part of the "Made in China 2025", a project to make China a global manufacturing power.

Comac says it have received around 570 orders, nearly all of them from domestic companies. Most are state-owned Chinese airlines.

The successful flight signals China's entry into the global aviation market, and moves the country one step closer to transforming itself from a manufacturer of low-priced goods to a creator of advanced technology.

"Aviation is a complex market and you need experience over a long time".

Both Airbus and Boeing have assembly plants in China considering the growing demand for new aircraft. Mohshin said much of China's aircraft technology started from Russian Federation, and the Tianjin factory has since given China's supply chain vital experience.

Beijing is also already looking beyond the C919, with plans to develop a wide-body long-haul jet with Russian Federation. The first deliveries of Chinese engines are expected in 2020.

"The world market is so complex and competitive that it is hard to hope that it will be possible to break into it immediately with a product that will beat all others and drive out all competitors", Kashin said, echoing Royce's remarks.

But there is still a long way to go down the road to a globally competitive aerospace industry. The plane was originally due to fly in 2014 and be delivered to buyers in 2016.
