Coulter says Berkeley speech is "canceled' but implies visit"

Berkeley student Joseph Pagadara, 19, said he was anxious about violence and says the university is caught in the middle of the countrys political divide. The University of California, Berkeley says it's preparing for possible violence on campus whether Coulter comes to speak or not.

After the event organizers and sponsor withdrew their support, Coulter still vowed to speak on campus at the Sproul Plaza.

Far-right supporters planned rallies Thursday to denounce what they called an attempt to silence their conservative views after Ann Coulter said she was forced to cancel a speaking event at the University of California, Berkeley.

But an attorney for the Berkeley College Republicans and Young America's Foundation told reporters that the university was denying conservative groups their rights.

Coulter told Hannity that the YAF had also stopped the College Republican National Committee from taking the matter to court.

"I'm so sorry Berkeley canceled my speech". The lawsuit claimed that the school administrators were trying to ban events that involved free speech.

"We don't want to do anything that is going to give us a public relations black eye".

University police erected barricades and refused to let any protesters enter the campus.

Chelsea close to Premier League title
The 30-year-old admitted that it's been a very hard season for him, but thinks that his contribution for the team is still very valuable.

According to the Republican group sponsoring the event, the Young America's Foundation (YAF), the university required Ms Coulter speak in the afternoon, only allow students to attend, and announce the location of the speech close to the time of the event. "On college campuses, that means that the best way to combat hateful speech is through counter-speech, vigorous and creative protest, and debate, not threats of violence or censorship". "The goal is much larger than Ann Coulter's speech here tomorrow". "We do believe that protesters will still come here", Yao said. "Berkeley's status as a symbol of free speech and protest makes it a tempting site for the staging of physical confrontations between both sides".

This spring, demonstrations in the city of Berkeley turned into violent brawls, with left-wing activists and Trump supporters, masked anarchists and self-proclaimed militia groups clashing.

In early March, 10 people were arrested when pro- and anti-Trump groups fought in Berkeley. Earlier this year, Milo Yiannopoulos's aborted appearance on the campus sparked a riot and a threat from President Trump to cut off the campus's federal funding.

However, another said Coulter would have spoken about illegal immigration "in the way that she does", thus making Berkeley a "more hostile place for immigrant students and global students".

"You will see a high number of highly visible law enforcement".

Dirks, Berkeley's chancellor, said Tuesday that because of the visibility around the clashes in recent months, and because of Berkeley's iconic status - he said "everyone loves to be able to talk about how we're the center of the "un-free speech movement" - university officials are concerned that they have become an unwilling symbol. The club, he said, had committed to the Thursday date without confirming its plans with the school first.

Had BCR simply followed the guidelines, he added, "They then would have been in touch with the speaker's organization and we would have had a date, and none of us would be here together today".
