Ransomware attack Group linked to NSA spy leaks threatens sale of new tech secrets

As the group wrote: "Each month peoples can be paying membership fee, then getting members only data dump each month". However, most of the world's censure is directed at the NSA.

"The ShadowBrokers is feeling like being very responsible party about Windows dump", Shadow Brokers wrote in the blog, in its usual weird dialect. "Comey Wanna Cry Edition", referred to President Trump's firing of the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, and the ransomware known as WannaCry - could not disguise the deadly serious nature of the threat.

The Shadow Brokers hacking group is pushing a monthly subscription service offering members top secret information including "compromised network data" from the nuclear and ballistic missile programs of Russia, China, North Korea and Iran. The tech industry writ large opposes efforts by the government to weaken the security of its products, while national security advocates say it could help combat terrorism.

If even if a fraction of what the Shadow Brokers are threatening in their dump of the month club comes to pass it is going to be a very long summer in Fort Meade.

The hacking group that says it facilitated the WannaCry ransomware attack has threatened to leak a new wave of hacking tools it claims to have stolen from the National Security Agency. "What members doing with data after is up to members".

The Shadow Brokers said it chose to share screenshots from the NSA Equation Group's lost 2013 Windows Ops Disk in January, with the understanding that the Equation Group would then tell Microsoft and the vulnerability would be patched.

"We auction best files to highest bidder", the note said.

An NSA employee was arrested in 2015 but never identified, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

In a blog post written in its trademark broken English, the group said it has more so-called Ops Disks, which it says were also stolen from the NSA. They offered a few more announcements, including screenshots of computer code, without stirring up sales.

Why an auction? Shadow Brokers is not interested in bug bounties, selling to "cyber thugs", or "giving to greedy corporate empires". Microsoft had actually made a patch for this WannaCry vulnerability in March 2017 and rolled it to users but not many installed it.

As a result, in January the group announced that it was "retiring".

BinaryEdge, a Zurich cybersecurity company, began picking up machines around the world infected with an NSA exploit called DoublePulsar.

"It was a prewarning of what was to come", said Tiago Henriques, the chief executive of BinaryEdge. Again, I think the Bitcoin payment demand is little more than a bit of theater intentionally paired with the amusingly terrible English, but what are they threatening to release? Gil Barak, CTO and co-founder at incident response firm Secdo, said his firm found "at least three different groups" exploiting the Windows Server Message Block (SMB) v1 flaw used in EternalBlue. "By that point, the intelligence value" of the exploits was "degraded", so it was decided that NSA would alert whatever vendors were affected, a former senior administration official said.
