Indiana's unemployment rate declines to 3.6 percent in April

"For the fifth consecutive month the unemployment rate in Kansas dropped and is now at 3.7 percent" said Kansas Secretary of Labor, Lana Gordon. The highest rates of unemployment were in Bamberg County (6.8 percent), Marion County (6.7 percent), Allendale County (6.5 percent), Orangeburg County (6.0 percent) and Marlboro County (5.9 percent).

San Diego County's unemployment rate plunged to 3.8 percent in April, a new post-recession low, the state Employment Development Department reported Friday.

The drop marks one of the lowest rates since September 2007, and is only slightly higher than the national unemployment rate of 4.4 percent.

The rate, which fell from 4.2 percent in March, is the lowest since December 2006, according to EDD data.

From April 2016 through April 2017, the state's labor force grew by 67,900 and the Seattle/Bellevue/Everett region increased by 37,500.

The number of jobs gained or lost in OH is based on a separate survey of employers.

That is Canada's lowest jobless rate since 2008.

Akers said that the unemployment rate increased because more individuals are entering the labor market.

The number of people working in SC has reached a record high, according to the state Department of Education and Workforce, who released their employment figures for April.

In Ellis County, the jobless rate was 2.6 percent.

Economic & Labor Market Information Chief Matthew Barewicz, who works for the state Department of Labor, noted in an email to VPR that the new data are preliminary.

"2016 was kind of disappointing with what we've seen in wage gains", he said.

"The composition of the April 2017 OH job losses was unfavorable", said George Zeller of Cleveland, an economic research analyst.

CT now has recovered 89,000 of the 119,100 jobs lost in the last recession or just under 75 percent. Education, health services and construction jobs had the largest over the month declines.

Washington has added an estimated 76,500 new jobs from April 2016 through April 2017, not seasonally adjusted. "In addition, OH once again lost 1,900 jobs in government". The industries in this sector include traditional publishing as well as software publishing; motion pictures and broadcasting; and telecommunications.

Manufacturing added 3,500 jobs, with expansions in nondurable goods offsetting losses in durable goods. "These [surveys] can vary month to month".

The number of people actively participating in the labor force increased 12,100 over the month to 2,945,300 and the number of people reporting themselves as employed increased 19,500 to 2,876,900.

Alabama's unemployment rate is still well above the national rate, which is 4.4 percent.
