ISIS attacks Afghan media broadcaster

Afghan security forces arrive at the site of an attack in Jalalabad city

Police said, the attackers entered Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) and engaged in a gun battle with security forces.

Afghan soldiers capture a suspected militant after the Jalalabad attack.

According to some news agencies, ISIS wounded at least 14 people, including journalists.

Earlier, local media reported that a group of suicide bombers targeted government offices including the governor house, a police station and the TV station. They regularly stage attacks on Afghan and USA forces that are conducting major operations to eliminate IS from the volatile province, which borders Pakistan. Both the Taliban and Islamic State have a presence in Nangarhar province, of which Jalalabad is the capital.

Wednesday's attack is the fifth major attack claimed by ISIL in the last seven months in Afghanistan.

The Islamic State group in Afghanistan claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the Site Intel Group, which monitors websites used by violent extremist groups. On May 3, ISIL said it carried out a suicide attack in the capital Kabul that killed eight civilians. Two of whom blew themselves up and the third one was still fighting with security forces.

The United States military had dropped the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, which the nation said was the largest non-nuclear bomb in its possession, on ISIS positions in Nangarhar, killing dozens of jihadists.

A crisis response team in Afghanistan is searching a television station building room by room after attackers stormed the premises, in an ongoing situation that has left at least two people dead.

The bombing triggered global shock waves, with some condemning the use of Afghanistan as what they called a testing ground for the weapon, and against an armed group.

Afghan security forces, accompanied by US advisers and air power, have been trying to reduce the group's territory and number of fighters with multiple operations.
