Jeff Kaplan Promises More Overwatch Animated Shorts Are on the Way

Overwatch Anniversary Event update skins

Blizzard has a released a lengthy trailer teasing the event while also celebrating how far Overwatch has come in the past year.

In preparation for next week's Overwatch Anniversary event, worldwide Overwatch social media has been teasing new character skins, voice lines, emotes, and even arena maps that will hit the live servers on May 23rd.

The rest of the interview is a good read for Overwatch players, as it touched upon topics such as incentives for competitive play, seasonal events, the Overwatch League, and many more.

The event will commence on May 23, the day Overwatch launched previous year, and will last until June 12. A few of them reference popular Overwatch memes, such as the popular "Dad76" and Symmetra's "carwash", which is also referenced in one of her in-game achievements. Speaking to Polygon, game director Jeff Kaplan elaborated on where they're at right now.

Blizzard Entertainment has formally announced that the next event will be called "Overwatch Anniversary", which will celebrate the video game's first anniversary since its first launch in May 2016.

New maps and skins are great, but the Overwatch Anniversary Event understands what loyal players really want: more dancing. "We're hard at work on more of those".

According to Kaplan, animated shorts are probably the thing that the Overwatch team loves to do the most. On the Xbox One, you'll need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to participate and we'll share more details next week ahead of the event. While the community will be hoping to see Blizzard make them a bit cheaper this time around, it is likely that the pricing model will remain the same.

The interview started with a question on expansion packs and sequels, as the Overwatch team already previously stated that they do not like the idea of releasing DLCs for the game.
