Nicky Hayden's Condition Remains Unchanged

The smashed window of the car that hit Nicky Hayden

2006 MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden remains in an "extremely serious" condition following a road accident on Wednesday that has left him with severe brain damage. Further description of the extent of his injuries has not been released since the hospital's prior statement of "serious polytrauma with subsequent serious cerebral damage".

CESENA, Italy (AP) - American motorcycle racer Nicky Hayden remains in "extremely critical" condition in hospital two days after he was hit by a auto while training on his bicycle.

Hayden, who had raced in the World Superbike Championship at Imola in Italy last Sunday, won the MotoGP championship in 2006.

Italian media quoted the hospital as saying Hayden had suffered a cerebral edema and lower body fractures and surgery had not been possible immediately because of his condition.

He was joined by his fiancée Jackie along with his brother Tommy and mother Rose, at the hospital.

Nine-time world champion Rossi took time out from preparing for this weekend's French MotoGP at Le Mans to pay tribute to Hayden. He was transported to a local hospital before being moved to Cesena. The Superbike World Championship says the incident occurred Wednesday along the Rimini coast.

He now sits 13th in the 2017 Superbikes standings.

"More updates will come as soon as they are announced". He started 216 races between 2003 and 2015, winning three.

Britain's Tour de France champion Chris Froome escaped unhurt this month while having his bike written off in a hit-and-run incident near his Monaco home.
