North Korea again defies world with missile test

President Trump said after North Korea's latest failed rocket launch that communist leader Kim Jong-Un would eventually develop better missiles, and "we can't allow it to happen".

The USS Carl Vinson also participated in annual springtime drills between United States and South Korea in March.

Military options for dealing with the North were still "on the table", Tillerson warned in his first address to the United Nations body.

He said North Korea has undertaken a "dangerous" course of action for years and that it is time for "us to retake control of the situation".

North Korean ballistic missile tests are banned by the United Nations because they ar e seen as part of the North's push for a nuclear-tipped missile which can strike the U.S. mainland.

The surge in tensions has rattled China, especially with US President Donald Trump's repeated insistence that the US would take on North Korea alone if Beijing fails to curb Pyongyang's provocative behavior.

Bong of Yonsei University said he expects "the Trump administration will hold a military option for a while in order to have Beijing move first in taking putative actions".

"The sides [Japanese and Chinese foreign ministers] have... discussed nuclear problem of the Korean peninsula", the statement issued following the talks read, Sputnik reported.

Stepping back from suggestions of USA military action, he even offered aid to North Korea if it ends its nuclear weapons program.

Trump slaps tariff on Canadian softwood lumber
The lumber and milk fall-out sets the two sides up for a wider battle as they renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement. But Trudeau also said his officials "will work constructively together" with the United States to find a solution.

North Korea's military may be armed with obsolete conventional weapons, but at 1.2 million men, it poses a very real threat to its neighbour and nemesis to the south.

Not all North Korea watchers had expected there would be another nuclear test around the 105th anniversary of its late state founder's birth on April 15 or the 85th anniversary of its armed forces on Tuesday. The services were re-opened after Shinzo Abe's government learnt that there was no threat to Japan because of the missile launch.

In a day of hectic diplomatic activities at the UN, Tillerson tried to rally world opinion for stronger economic and diplomatic sanctions, reminding other members of the Council that they "are within striking distance of North Korean missiles". "Japan is watching how China will act in regard to North Korea".

As per the agency, neither the type of missile, nor the distance travelled is yet known.

Japan condemned the launch as absolutely unacceptable and a violation of United Nations resolutions.

The two countries have been engaged in a war of words over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.

Francis says he would urge them to use diplomacy and negotiation "because it's the future of humanity".

"North Korea should abandon its shallow scheme of promoting regime stability through a show of force and hurry to come forward to the dialogue table", her campaign said in a statement. But it exploded quickly after being launched, marking the third failed test of this month. Japan's NHK reports the group passed through the Korea Strait, and entered the East Sea this afternoon, accompanied by a Japanese naval convoy. "But Pyongyang may still harbor the illusion that the Security Council will only take limited action and that it can disregard and ridicule the authority of the United Nations". But condemnations and sanctions resolutions since 2006, when North Korea conducted its first nuclear test, have done little to impede its push for ballistic missiles and nuclear arms.

The Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system, or THAAD, remains a controversial topic in South Korea and presidential front-runner Moon Jae-in even has vowed to reconsider the deployment if he wins the May 9 election.
