'The Flash': Robert Zemeckis, Matthew Vaughn Vying for Directing Job

However, The Flash is now without a release date and it is said that Warner Bros.is willing to wait should he decide to take on the reins.

Warner Bros.is looking at X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn and Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis as its top two candidates to helm The Flash, according to Variety. That makes sense, because everyone from Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie) to Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) to Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) has worked on the film, and they've all fallen by the wayside. The report comes just weeks after Screen Junkies reported that their sources tied Zemeckis to the project, as well.

Update: The Hollywood Reporter added a third name. Now it appears that they're both fighting for the same job. The director will be best-known at the moment for his work on The Kingsman.

Obvioulsy we're not going to put too much stock in this until we find out more, but most of you guys seemed to love the idea of Zemeckis coming aboard the project, so hopefully there is some truth to it.

Joby Harold has been tapped to do rewrite "The Flash" script. Harold's credits for the studio include "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword", "Robin Hood", as well as a "Twilight Zone" film. The film was then pulled off the schedule. (Minus some of the head-popping gore, anyway.) Raimi's a weirder choice; although his Spider-Man movies helped kick off the superhero movie boom, he hasn't had a hit since 2004's Spider-Man 2.

Zemeckis hasn't really worked in superhero cinema before, but he has a long history with sci-fi and fantasy adventure, and with integrating cutting-edge effects into live-action. Director Rick Famuyiwa left "The Flash" over creative differences a year ago.

Vaughn, a filmmaker already deeply experienced in comic book movies with pics such as X-Men: First Class and Kingsman: The Secret Service and counts Kick-Ass in his comic book movie repertoire, is readying his latest film, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, for a September 22 release. And it's someone with experience in the comic book movie genre. Who do you think should direct DCEU's 'The Flash'?
