2 more government ministers resign

Brexit minister Davis 'No doubt' over Britain leaving EU

On Tuesday, Sylvie Goulard announced her resignation as defense minister, saying that her departure would help her to "freely demonstrate" her good faith in an investigation into allegations of misusing European Union funds.

Justice Minister François Bayrou and Minister for European Affairs Marielle de Sarnez were the latest Democratic Movement (MoDem) cabinet members to quit, following the departure of Defence Minister Sylvie Goulard on Tuesday, Efe news reported.

Even more embarrassing for President Macron is that his justice minister was in the process of promoting a law to clean up politics, a key policy promise of the recently elected president.

Goulard said her resignation was an act of "good faith" as the investigation overshadows her party.

Being a target of a preliminary investigation in France is not an indication of guilt. For instance, labor ministers are discussing the changes to the use of detached workers, which typically involve laborers from low-wage, low-tax countries doing jobs elsewhere on the same terms they have at home.

Like the ex-defense minister, Bayrou and de Sarnez could become subjects of investigations over the use of parliamentary assistants who were improperly paid.

But in a further sign of how Macron has dismantled France's traditional left-right divide, a lawmaker from the main conservative Republicans party said he was forming a splinter group that would back the president on some reforms.

Government spokesman Christophe Castaner said the decision was personal, because he "wanted to defende himself in this affair", but also commented that it "simplifies the situation".

Josh Jackson says he would 'love' to play for Celtics
Skeptics think they are too similar, with neither one of them a knockdown 3-point shooter or go-to scorer, at least at this point. Less than two weeks removed from the NBA finals, the association is already grabbing headlines as it gears up for the offseason.

He said he was a victim of "slander and defamatory denunciations", fuelled by social networks and the media.

In contrast, the Socialist Party, which used to hold the majority of seats in the last National Assembly, suffered a awful defeat, losing nearly 90 percent of its seats, down from more than 300 to just 30. In total, her National Front took eight seats in this election, the best ever results the party has seen. That would give her political clout, as well as parliamentary immunity from prosecution.

On Monday, the government announced that Richard Ferrand, a minister for territorial planning - another close Macron ally - was leaving the cabinet to chair the LREM party's group in parliament.

Macron's idea had faced significant opposition from Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic, as well as European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstroem, all highly suspicious of French-style meddling in the open market.

Ferrand was also under pressure over suspicions that he helped his wife to win real estate deals and that he employed his children as assistants in the National Assembly.

But with only 112 MPs, the Republicans are not in a position to unsettle Macron or the government.

MoDem entered an alliance with REM for both the presidential and legislative elections, and in exchange Macron rewarded the party for its support by giving them key jobs in his first cabinet.
