5 things we learned from the Lions win over Chiefs

The British & Irish Lions coaches will meet on Wednesday to finalise the team for Saturday's first Test with Warren Gatland predicting a "tough" selection meeting after a number of players impressed in their win over the Chiefs on Tuesday.

"There were a few times in the first half when we were a little bit lateral with the ball, but we were much better in the second half".

"This was massive for us today,"Nowell said".

"To be fair, the All Blacks have some fairly handy individuals and they've been planning for this for a long time". It is something that gets us out of bed in the morning.

"Sometimes in the last few games it just doesn't come your way, but we've worked well on it this week and that's the key element - keep penalties down and build phases".

"If you let any New Zealand team, let alone the All Blacks, play rugby, they're going to play - chuck the ball around, try and get around you", Nowell said.

"On Saturday we're up against the best team in the world in their own backyard, a place they haven't been beaten at since 1994, so we have to take things up a level".

Peter O'Mahony's ability in the lineout, sheer physicality around the pitch and merciless work at the breakdown - in attack and defence - is a huge asset to Warren Gatland's side.

"Referees are different depending on where they are from and you can also have referees from the same country who referee quite differently", he said.

North Korea denies torturing Otto Warmbier during his incarceration
Despite a ban on North Korean coal imports, China remains, by far, North Korea's most critical trading partner. The statement called the accusations that Warmbier was exposed to torture and beatings "groundless".

"It hasn't come a lot for the wingers - it's been wet and drizzly - but the main thing is we are pushing each other, helping each other".

"I was pleased to see him play well and I thought Elliot looked sharp". We haven't complained about it.

They crossed for four tries - one penalty try from their driving maul being joined by three backline strikes.

The highly-skilled Wasps back made his intentions clear when he smashed into the Chiefs from kick-off, and he did not take a step back afterwards, always looking to run powerfully and into space.

"There's a good team spirit throughout this squad".

"At one point captain Rory Best went up to Garces and said, 'when we put those little dinks in behind them they're body checking.' The Lions are fed up with this sort of nonsense, as the whole of rugby should be, and have decided to make a concerted protest".

Coach Dave Rennie acknowledged the Lions had improved throughout the tour and the test series might be closer than some think. This time previous year the proud Waikato man left Hamilton with a face as red as his Welsh lads' jerseys after the Chiefs put them to the sword during their series against the All Blacks.

"We were disappointed with the two losses, and you think to yourself, 'Do I really have an opportunity to get into the Test side?', so you need to win and play well to make sure you do as best as you can to put your hand up".
