Author eats his book on live TV after incorrect United Kingdom poll prediction

And politics expert Matthew Goodwin proved he is a man of his word when he ate pages of his Brexit volume on live TV on Saturday. On May 28, the University of Kent professor, in a tweet, had bet that he would eat his book if Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party got 38 per cent votes in the United Kingdom polls.

He tweeted on May 27: 'I'm saying this out loud.

Professor Goodwin co-wrote Brexit: Why Britain Voted to Leave the European Union with fellow academics Harold D. Clarke and Paul Whiteley.

There is no chance Jeremy Corbyn could become Prime Minister now because the numbers simply don't stack up for him, according to Labour's former head of press. "I will happily eat my new Brexit book if they do", he had tweeted.

Well, Labour got 40.3 percent on June 9.

After the results came in, Goodwin was trolled by Labour supporters for his tweet.

Don't make promises you can't keep.

Matthew Goodwin had promised on Twitter that if his poll prediction for the UK Polls went wrong, he would eat his entire book on the separation of the UK from the European Union.

"I am a man of my words".

One such commentator was Professor Matthew J Goodwin, who teaches Politics at Rutherford College and the University of Kent.

He then gave a slightly sad thumbs up to the camera. While people on the social media began to worry about the health effect of the act, the Sky News producer tweeted that Goodwin did not swallow the page he was munching on.
