Baby born on Saudi-India flight gets free lifetime pass

He is a born frequent flier - a baby boy, born 35,000 feet above sea level on a Jet Airways plane from Saudi Arabia to India on Sunday, has received a free lifetime pass from the airline as his first birthday gift.

Mumbai: A premature baby boy was born early on Sunday on a Jet Airways worldwide flight that was flying from Dammam in Saudi Arabia to Kochi.

Jet Airways announced that being the first baby to be born in flight for the airlines, the kid would get a free lifetime pass for any travel on the carrier. A lucky couple was blessed with a baby boy during a Jet flight to Mumbai. "Upon landing, both mother & baby were rushed to Holy Spirit Hospital, Mumbai and are stable", Jet Airways said in a statement.

The flight was delayed by more than two hours as it reached Kochi at 12.45 pm instead of 10.15 am on Sunday.

Declaring a medical emergency, the crew of the flight 9W 569 diverted the flight to Mumbai airport. Jet Airways has informed the family of the guest who are now en route from Kochi. But since there was none travelling on the flight, a nurse volunteered to help deliver the child along with the airline staff.

With the assistance of the airline's and trained paramedic on board, the woman delivered the baby at around 35000 ft. The airline then expressed its gratitude to Ms Wilson, the on board paramedic for her guidance in the procedure.
