Batman Actor Adam West Has Died, Twitter Salutes The Legend #RIP

He died on Friday, June 9, 2017, at the age of 88. Adam West passed away peacefully last night after a short but courageous battle with leukemia.

For a long time, West was so iconic as Batman that he had difficulty getting other roles.

The actor is survived by his wife, Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

West's Batman, which he called his "Bright Knight", protected Gotham City from Technicolor criminals such as the Penguin, the Riddler and Catwoman. However, he struggled to find continuing success after the show's cancellation. The show later made its TV debut in 1966. He downsized and moved to Ketchum, Idaho where he still had a house when he died. However, he put his heart and soul into playing Batman.

All of which were minuscule in comparison to Batman, which first premiered in 1966, and was a pop-cultural hit. Prior to his Hollywood Star, West also received a Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars in 2012.

In the years after the show ended, though, West found it hard to find work that didn't reflect his most famous role, spending much of the 1970s and 1980s working in voiceover or doing in-person appearances as the character. His last appearance in a movie was in 2009 as Kostka Volvic in "The Dictator's Son".

Other actors, including Michael Keaton and Oscar victor Christian Bale, have taken on the role of the Caped Crusader, but no one was as closely identified with the character as West.

MacFarlane issued a statement on Twitter Saturday saying "Family Guy" has lost its mayor, and that he had lost a friend.

West's deadpan portrayal of the comic hero in a campy 1960's TV series brought the Caped Crusader into the national consciousness with a "bang!" "Thank you for showing us all how it's done", Ben Affleck said via social media.

"There are several fine actors who have portrayed Batman in films, in my eyes there was only one real Batman and that is and always will be Adam West".
