Best to lead Lions against Chiefs

British and Irish Lions player Ben Te'o avoids the tackle of Maori All Blacks player Nehe Milner-Skudder, Rotorua June 17, 2017.

British & Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland has called on referee Jaco Peyper to keep a close eye on blocking in the first Test against New Zealand on Saturday.

"(Lions coach Warren) Gatland announced it in the team room, and forced me to get up and say a few words", the 34-year-old Best told reporters.

"So ultimately it's to look after the Test squad, which is so important now at this stage of the series". "There was some outstanding attacking play and it's up to us to make sure we have a plan to make sure they don't get what they want and the play the game at a pace we want to play at".

No players who started the Maori game will face the Chiefs.

"The guys that played on Saturday will roll up their sleeves and help us prepare for Tuesday, and depending on what happens at the end of the week, the opposite will happen".

"We're still not confirmed in a number of the combinations and finalising what we want at second row, back row, the back three combination, midfield".

That possibility was also in the mind of Chiefs coach Dave Rennie who said he expected the Lions would be desperate to push their cases for test consideration against his team.

JONATHAN DAVIES and Ben Te'o made great breaks against the Maoris but the Lions' support play must improve and be clinical against the All Blacks in the first Test.

Gatland believes the 32-10 win over a strong Maori side has given the Lions new impetus ahead of Saturday's first test against New Zealand.

London mayor joins church service to remember Grenfell Tower victims
So, the residents are saying that the final death toll could be much higher than the figure what British authorities are giving. Hundreds have been left homeless, putting more pressure on officials in a city plagued by a chronic housing shortage.

Back-three players Liam Williams, Jack Nowell and Elliot Daly all have a chance of forcing their way into Test reckoning, while Iain Henderson is in flying form and can move above Jones in the pecking order with a big display.

"But I'm really happy with the group of men we've assembled".

The Ulster hooker commented: "The last time I captained the Lions it didn't go perfectly for us (losing 14-12 to the Brumbies), but I'll personally be looking to set that record straight on Tuesday".

The Chiefs caught Wales on the hop last season in between tests and they will once again be stripped of their All Blacks and a number of front line players.

"It was a good performance", he said.

"It makes it hard to complete attacking opportunities and situations.we've raised it with the referees already".

"I thought we defended well and the line out and scrum and mauling was excellent".

"There is no way we are divided into two", he said.

In at 15: Liam Williams gets a start in his preferred position of full-back.

"So there will be some tough debates and discussions to have on the final make-up of what the back-row is going to be for Saturday".
