Bill Cosby sexual assault trial: Jury to deliberate for third straight day

Jury deliberations at Bill Cosby's sex assault trial enter third day

Mr. Cosby faces three counts of aggravated indecent assault and could face as much as 30 years in prison if convicted. The panel hasn't had any questions so far Wednesday.

After they were served dinner (hot stromboli), the jury asked for a read-back of excerpts from the testimony of Richard Schaffer, the local police detective who interviewed Cosby in 2005 about what accuser Andrea Constand said Cosby did to her in his nearby home in 2004.

O'Neill ruled the court reporter would read back for the jury the parts of Constand's testimony, both direct and cross-examination. But the defense team called just one witness to the stand and rested their case in just a handful of minutes.

Bill Cosby arrives for his sexual assault trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pa., Thursday, June 8, 2017.

In one of the biggest U.S. celebrity trials in years, a guilty verdict could see the judge sentence Cosby up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine on each count. They called a second woman, Kelly Johnson, to testify he sexually assaulted her in 1996 and showed jurors his deposition testimony in which he admitted giving young women sedatives in the 1970s.

The prosecution rested its case on Friday, four days after the trial began.

Cosby's daughter, Evin, took to social media in April to assert her father is "not a rapist."

"My interactions with him, he's been in good spirits, " Pulliam said.

She testified last week that he gave her a substance that incapacitated her and then he sexually assaulted her.

"There is someone in that room championing Bill Cosby, and someone is championing her".

She woke up on the couch early in the morning with her clothes disheveled, she said. "I just felt like I wanted to do what I would have wanted to receive", Keshia said on the Today show.

Cosby lowered and shook his head in the courtroom as she spoke.

They also wanted to hear Cosby's wording when he referred to the three pills as "friends", as well as Constand's initial statements to authorities in Canada. This is the first time Cosby has faced criminal charges. A judge recently denied Cosby's motion to dismiss the case, and a trial has been scheduled for June 2018. But there is no mandatory minimum, meaning that the judge overseeing the case could also allow him to walk free. "However it won't change the love because when you have family, people falter, people make mistakes, things happen, but in no way is that condoning sexual assault".

"They are looking for chinks in her (Constand's) armour", MacGregor said.

Jurors did hear Cosby's side of the story - but not in his voice. Cosby has given a sealed deposition in the case. It was not clear whether Andrea Constand, Cosby's accuser, was at the courthouse Wednesday.

The jury is in its third day of deliberations in the sexual assault trial of Bill Cosby.

Prosecutors have portrayed Constand as a courageous victim seeking justice.

Constand initially told police about the alleged assault in January 2005, a year after she says it took place.

Jurors continued their work a day after telling the judge they were unable to reach agreement on a unanimous verdict.

He was not charged with any crimes at the time, but he did settle a civil suit with her out of court in 2006.

"You danced outside your marriage", McMonagle said to Cosby while turning to Cosby's wife of more than 50 years in the first row.
