Canadian Henderson tames strong winds for fourth LPGA win

"This morning he said "do it for me", so this is definitely for him", said Henderson on the Golf Channel broadcast immediately after her win.

Only 19 years of age and with a major title already to her name, Henderson's last win came in August of last year and, although she has been solid without contending for a title thus far in 2017, her win her and the US$300,000 she earns will move her to 6th on the money list.

Afterwards, Henderson was unhappy with with how she ended Friday, and said that she hopes that will lead to better play through the weekend.

"Could have been really close to being a great shot", Henderson said.

"I was kind of surprised when I looked at the leaderboard and I had a two-shot lead on the 18th green", Henderson said.

"I felt like today was going to be a really good day", Henderson said.

"I didn't quite see all those numbers, but I knew the golf course had to be softer", Lewis said.

In a three-way tie for third at 266 were Su Oh, Madelene Sagstrom and Moriya Jutanugarn.

Thompson won the Kingsmill Championship last month in Virginia for her eighth LPGA Tour title after losing the ANA Inspiration in a playoff after being penalized four strokes for a rules violation reported by a television viewer. "Everything seems to be good".

Fellow major champions Lexi Thompson, Stacy Lewis and Shanshan Feng were a stroke back along with Calgary's Jennifer Ha, Giulia Molinaro and Holly Clyburn.

Feng is trying to complete a MI sweep after winning the LPGA Volvik Championship three weeks ago in Ann Arbor. Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn eventually won and became the world No. 1. She also is the youngest victor on the tour this year.

Sarah Jane Smith was the only other Australian to make the cut and she finished 37th.

WICHITA, Kan. - Former Oregon star Aaron Wise shot his second straight 62 Friday to stay atop the leaderboard in the Web.com Tour Air Capital Classic at Crestview Country Club.

An accommodating and pleasant presence, Henderson had on more than one occasion left the course without speaking to the waiting media since last year's Olympics in Rio.

Seth Reeves and John Chin are another shot back of Thompson and Lee at 131.
