Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich 'sanctions £70m bid' for Alvaro Morata

Mourinho and Florentino Pérez at loggerheads over Morata

Jose Mourinho is thought to be edging closer to landing the Real Madrid striker but Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has other ideas.

It was suggested in the newspaper that Morata has agreed terms over his part of the move and United are hoping to get a deal agreed to sign the striker for around £60m - which is £20m short of Madrid's valuation.

However, there could be a late twist in the tail as the Express are quoting journalist Josep Pedrerol as telling TV show El Chiringuito that Chelsea are set to make a late hijack attempt to snare Morata from under United's noses.

Morata could leave Madrid during the summer window, with both Manchester United and AC Milan interested in the Spain worldwide.

But for now the 24-year-old is still a Real Madrid player with United yet to agree a fee with Real, who are now believed to have put the deal on hold after Cristiano Ronaldo's revelations.

"The time he spent at Juventus was great for him to mature".

In an interview with The Guardian in April, he said: 'Various Premier League coaches called to tell me to play for them.

'I knew they'd bring me back but I didn't know if it was to keep me or sell me.

Apparently though Lopez found that Madrid, who want £79million for the player are not only in no hurry, but the Ronaldo situation has further muddied the waters.

"I remember talking to my dad then and him saying: 'This guy's going to win the league there'".

'Conte is the manager who most "bet" on me, without even ever having had me in his team. I'm sure sooner or later I will'.
