Cilic edges past Muller to reach Queen's final

Marin Cilic of Croatia celebrates winning match point against Stefan Kozlov of the United States during day four of the Queen's Club tennis tournament in London, Thursday, June 22, 2017.

Cilic booked his place in the summit showdown after battling past Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in a grueling last-four clash that lasted two hours and 16 minutes.

Muller, a tall left-hander with an accurate serve and a strong grass-court game, won on grass in the Netherlands last week and also hadn't been broken this week until he played Cilic.

"It's just incredible to get to the final", said Cilic who won the title in 2012 and finished runner-up in 2013.

'But I am probably playing my best tennis.

In the doubles, Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares made the semi-finals, beating Michael Venus and Ryan Harrison 7-6 (7/1) 4-6 10-6.

"I've felt really good on serve all week".

The 34-year-old's huge serve was on full display when he won the 's-Hertogenbosch title on grass last week and once again he used it to devastating effect against 2010 Queen's victor Querrey.

Lopez, meanwhile, had to overcome a 45-minute delay during the second set, when he regained composure to see off Dimitrov, the player who had beaten him in the 2014 final. The veteran Swiss, who is looking to win what would be an eighth Wimbledon title next month, will play Alexander Zverev after the German fourth seed came from behind to beat Richard Gasquet of France 4-6 6-4 6-3.

"It's the best week of my career - to win this tournament at this stage of my career, it's so fantastic. I lost in the quarter-finals for the two years, so I'm really happy that I was able to go one step further", he said. It is one of the tournaments that you, first of all, you love.

"When I was younger I was watching Queen's all the time, and it's one of those tournaments that you always want to play".

Cilic was broken only once all week at Queen's but hard-hitting Lopez - now the oldest victor of this tournament in the Open era - saw him off in two tiebreaks.

An early chance to take command of the second set disappeared with a wayward backhand, and it was Dimitrov who was pushing for the break when the rain arrived.

He hit back to win the second set, but Cilic delivered the knockout blow with a break in seventh game of the final set and fittingly sealed the victory with an ace.

The unseeded Spaniard secured the only break of the opening set in game 11, but then found himself 3-2 down on serve in the second when the rain brought the covers out.
