CISF celebrates International Yoga Day

The objective of the yoga session was to provide an insight into the traditional basis of Yoga and its relevance in the present day context of high stress and demanding military service, said Lt Gen. Surinder Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command who attended the event.

The third International Day of Yoga was celebrated in the City Beautiful on Wednesday at the Plaza in Sector-17, Chandigarh.

Army officers, soldiers and their family members performed "asanas" and "pranayam" on the occasion of third global yoga day today.

More than 150 yoga enthusiasts from local Yoga schools, namely, Yoga Shahi, Art of living Azerbaijan and Sivananda Yoga centre, and the Indian Association in Azerbaijan took part at the event.

"It's different from doing yoga at home, a more quiet setting".

In 2014, Narendra Modi became the 14th Prime Minister of India and started spearheading an initiative to reclaim Yoga as an historic part of Indian culture.

"Yoga connects body, mind and soul". Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who himself participated in the yoga camps in Guwahati and Nalbari, said that his government would extend facilities for yoga to all school children, panchayat offices, tea gardens and interior char areas.

Isha Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Border Security Force (BSF) this month which will equip over 2 lakh 50 thousand BSF personnel to learn Yoga in scientific way through teachers trained by Sadhguru. "This approach to health and wellbeing can make a direct and useful contribution to humankind's quest to achieve sustainable development and move towards lifestyles that are in harmony with nature", Minister Vuniwaqa said.
