Congressional Baseball Gunman Carried List Of Names At Time Of Shooting

Congressional Baseball Game breaks records for fundraising ticket sales

Congressional shooter James Hodgkinson had in his pocket a list containing the names of three Republican congressmen when he was shot, according to reports published Friday.

Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., and four others were injured in the shooting before U.S. Capitol Police fatally shot Hodgkinson. His condition was upgraded from critical to serious.

President Trump, speaking from the White House, called for national unity after the "very, very brutal assault".

According to Fox News, the handwritten list was found in a van belonging to James Hodgkinson by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the lawmakers named on the list are known to be conservative members associated with the Freedom Caucus.

The discovery suggests that the shooting was a premeditated political attack, The Daily Caller reported.

Duncan had said that before he left the practice he was approached by a man he later believed to be Hodgkinson who had asked whether Republicans or Democrats were on the baseball field.

The FBI is still investigating the case and is looking through Hodgkinson's belongings, including his cellphone, computer and camera.

The offices of both senators - Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth - turned over the emails to Capitol Police and declined to divulge specifics about their content.

Salter reported from Belleville, Illinois. "I can't wrap my head around it", Hodgkinson said. Investigators are trying to determine what his intent may have been - whether it was a list of potential targets for violence or whether he wrote them down for some other reason, one official said.

Police in Hodgkinson's hometown in southern IL knew the gunman, only from a history of misdemeanor crimes.

MedStar Washington Hospital Center said Scalise underwent a fourth procedure on Saturday but continues to show signs of improvement.

Hodgkinson's social media postings included anti-conservative rants.

A spokesman for George Washington University Hospital said that Matt Mika, a lobbyist wounded in the attack, was improving, and that as of Thursday night his condition had been upgraded from critical to serious.
