Council says van struck people leaving mosque

One person is dead after a reported shooting in Greenville County early Saturday morning.

Emergency services are seen near Finsbury Park as British police say there are casualties after reports of a vehicle colliding with pedestrians in North London, Britain June 19, 2017. "There are a number of casualties being worked on at the scene", a statement released by the police disclosed.

Police say they rushed to the scene after the incident happened after midnight local time.

The mosques were busy with people observing the holy month of Ramadan.

British Prime MInister Theresa May said police are treating the incident as a potential terrorist attack. The leader of the opposition Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, said he was "totally shocked". Please report anything suspicious to the police, but only call 999 in an emergency. I heard the sound of the van crashing. That incident came just a week after the Manchester Arena attack, which killed 22 and left more than 100 injured.

The Finsbury Park Mosque was associated with extremist ideology for several years after the 9/11 attacks in the United States but was shut down and reorganised.

Counter-terrorism police have joined regular police officers looking into the incident, the Guardian newspaper reported.

Eyewitness Cynthia Vanzella said it was a mixed community, with people from many different countries and cultures.

On June 4, three attackers rammed a hired van into pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed others nearby, killing seven people and injuring 48.

"It appears that a white man in a van intentionally ploughed into a group of worshippers who were already tending to someone who had been taken ill", the Muslim Council said in a statement.

A witnesses told Sky News that at least ten people were hit by the van.

According to the Council in a follow-up tweet, the van struck the victims closer to the Muslim Welfare House.

A Reuters witness said they saw at least one person being loaded into an ambulance. Eight people were killed before the men were shot to death by police.

The collision near Finsbury Park Mosque which has been described as "a deliberate attack" by witnesses has been condemned.

One man, who gave his name as Mohin, said his cousin was caught up in the incident.

The incident happened about two weeks after a auto and stabbing attack on London that left seven people dead and 48-other injured.
