Deputy AG warns 'Americans should be skeptical about anonymous allegations'

His comments follow revelations that special counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether the president obstructed justice by firing Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

Rosenstein has been overseeing the Russian Federation probe since shortly after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself.

Rod Rosenstein, deputy attorney general nominee for US President Donald Trump, listens during a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing in Washington, DC, US, on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

From the tweet, it sounds like Trump is blaming Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein.

This tweet is significant because the president is now openly admitting that he is "being investigated", after insisting for most of this year, truthfully, that he was not.

After Comey's firing, the administration gave differing reasons for his dismissal.

In the wake of the Comey firing, Sanders said Rosenstein "is somebody who has been universally praised".

The president also called out the "Fake News Media" and boasted of his "very powerful "social media numbers, in his Friday morning tweets". The White House has denied any collusion, and Trump has repeatedly complained about the probe, saying Democrats can not accept his election win. Comey was sacked by the president on May 9 while he was overseeing the investigation into potential Russian interference into last year's election and potential collusion with the Trump presidential campaign.

President Trump's personal lawyer has retained a Washington, D.C. -based lawyer to represent him in the various government probes connected to Russian involvement in the 2016 election. Does it become a witch hunt?

If "the man" in the tweet is, in fact, Rosenstein - as one person who recently spoke to Trump told CNN - Trump's anger marks a whopper of a turnaround on the same man he and other senior White House officials praised effusively just weeks ago.

If Trump's goal is to limit Mueller's probe or force him out, Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona said this week, "that would be disastrous for him".

Special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly now investigating the finances and business dealings of Jared Kushner, according to a report Thursday night from the Washington Post. "I recognize the importance of these questions, and I think that Director Mueller ought to review that and make a determination of whether or not he believes it is within the scope of his investigation".

Robert Mueller, the special counsel named by the department to investigate the Russian Federation matter, is now examining whether Trump or others sought to obstruct the probe, a person familiar with the inquiry said on Thursday. "Regulations way down, jobs and enthusiasm way up!"

The letter said the investigation will also probe Comey's testimony that Loretta Lynch, as President Barack Obama's attorney general, had directed him to describe an FBI probe into Hillary Clinton's email practices as merely a "matter" and to avoid calling it an investigation. And Democrats and Republicans alike have criticized his use of Twitter, particularly amid the ongoing investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Mueller's investigation is still in a relatively early phase, and it is unclear if any criminal charges will be brought when it is complete. The order also covers separate inquiries into several key Trump associates including former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, campaign adviser Paul Manafort, foreign policy aide Carter Page and outside adviser Roger Stone.

"Accounts by Comey and other officials of their conversations with the president could become central pieces of evidence if Mueller decides to pursue an obstruction case", The Post story reported, and that investigators will examine Trump's public and private statements "about his reasons for firing Comey" in the context of his "concerns about the Russian Federation probe".
