Did Erin Hills serve as a US Open worthy course?

Donald Trump restores travel and economic restrictions on Cuba

When Brooks Koepka tapped in his final putt to win the 117th U.S. Open by four shots and tie Rory McIlroy's record of 16 under par in the ancient event, the 27-year-old may have had the most muted reaction in the history of humans who were still breathing.

And his reaction is a single, solitary fist pump? There are so many great ones to choose from. "There's something about majors where I just focus in a lot more", he said, and the record does show this: 15 majors so far, five top-10 finishes, four top-five finishes and a major, the seventh consecutive golf major to go to a first-time victor in this populous era. That? That was it?

"Did you see that fist pump there on 18?"

US Open champion Brooks Koepka has revealed he nearly quit golf while leading a tournament.

This makes two on the PGA Tour, and it was a big one.

Bob Koepka, who lives in West Palm Beach, Fla., spent many summer months in Ligonier, playing Champion Lakes. Their conversation was lengthy, for them: almost two minutes, by Koepka's estimation.

In that time, the Milwaukee Bucks had a window of success culminating in a trip to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals in 2001, the Milwaukee Brewers ended their own long postseason drought in 2008 and then in 2012 made it to the National League Championship Series, and the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team went to two straight Final Fours. I've been trying to win too badly.

"Really it was like a dream come true", Morrissett said. I'm not a big fan of losing. "Unfortunately I just didn't execute". Expect to see Koepka on your screens week after week now, and with a long ball and skill set similar to that of Johnson, Koepka has ability to keep climbing up the World Golf Rankings.

"Yeah", Koepka said with a smile, "I think they should". I mean there's a double (bogey) and a triple (bogey) waiting around every corner, if you just kind of take your mind off of it or just relax for a half second."There's something about majors where I just focus in a lot more". "I think that's been the consensus from everybody". He did it on a stunning golf course that demands all sorts of shot-making, which requires an exciting player. "I don't think I mentioned "winning" to my caddie all week". This guy is so freshly minted he may still be hot from the smelt.

"I felt on Saturday I played great. I'm still reading it, still doing everything, and it's got my attention". "But I'm past that now".

Even in its test run at the 2010 U.S. Amateur, the best player in the world, Peter Uihlein, won the tournament.

"They told me to do what I had to do", he said. Until the next time they aren't.

Tied for the lead with six holes to play, Koepka made an 8-foot par putt on the 13th hole. "I want to go home". "I don't know why - I just couldn't stand the fact that I had only won once". "I've done it before, but he did it today".

It was only his second win in the USA, but it was a special one for more reasons than winning his first major title.

Yes, both of them, neither to be mistaken with anything Tiger Woods has done over the years.

With guys like Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson, Day, Johnson, Garcia and many others, the star power on the PGA Tour is at an all-time high making it hard to give Koepka the coverage he deserves. This was their U.S. Open to step forward and demonstrate the broad sweep of 20-something talent that fills the game. As the last seven major championships have shown us, there is no guarantee victor.

"I loved this course as soon as I saw it".

Koepka said Sunday he had been determined not to let his latest opportunity slip away. In part, that is due to rain and soft scoring conditions.

His reaction was subdued, just like his close friend and last year's U.S. Open champion, Dustin Johnson.

But mostly, the phenomenal scores pointed to the wave of new stars, such as Koepka, who sometimes obscure each other. But he started the day six shots out of the lead. "The younger generation that's coming up right now, it's really impressive", Koepka said. And unlike most players after a first major, he's willing to say it. "Open" and think it's the USGA's job to torture the best players, not simply to identify them. "At the beginning of this year, I felt I needed to win multiple times and a major", Koepka said. "I thought it was very challenging". "This is major No. 1 and hopefully many more to come".
