Disability Advocates Outside Mitch McConnell's Office Arrested

Some of the protesters were yelling "no cuts to Medicaid" as they were being led away by police.

As a group of 13 Republican senators-all of them both white and male-continue to craft in secret their version of a major healthcare overhaul bill, a new analysis shows these lawmakers have received approximately double the amount of campaign contributions from the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries than their Senate colleagues who have been so far excluded from the process. The Senators have a couple of days to decide whether to support or vote against the bill with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pressing ahead for a vote next week.

Around 60 protesters showed up to the protest holding signs bearing anti-AHCA slogans and chanted "Don't Touch Medicaid".

As protesters gathered to make their voices heard, U.S. Capitol police allegedly warned demonstrators to "cease their unlawful activities" or risk being arrested, The Washington Post reported.

Laura Halvorson, 33, also a protester, said many of those who participated in the die-in resisted arrest and were then removed by Capitol Police without their wheelchairs - images that attracted significant attention on social media.

The protesters staged a "die-in" in front of the office, with numerous protesters in wheelchairs removing themselves from the chairs then lying down on the floor.

ADAPT organizer Bruce Darling said: 'Our lives and liberty shouldn't be stolen to give a tax break to the wealthy.

According to Axios, McConnell has indicated that he intends to vote on the repeal and replacement of the Obamacare bill before the July 4 recess so that Congress can proceed to focus on other critical issues like tax reform and the budget when they return. "They were literally carried from the space out to a separate area".

They said that they will release a statement with arrests and charges later today. Rice said she's concerned about provisions in the Senate bill that may make it more hard for people to access care.

The statement also stated the group's protest falls on the 18th anniversary of Olmstead v. LC - the 1999 Supreme Court Ruling that first recognized disabled people's right to live in communities rather than institutions.
