Donald Trump is yelling at TVs in White House over Russian Federation probe

"So, it is not hard for me", he said, arguing that while a new president and attorney general will have new priorities, the way the department peruses and prosecutes cases doesn't change.

Former independent counsel Ken Starr called the prospect of firing Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller an "insult to the Founding Fathers" in a Washington Post op-ed published Thursday night.

President Donald Trump acknowledged on Friday he is under investigation in a probe of alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential race and possible collusion by his campaign - and seemed to assail the Justice Department official overseeing the inquiry.

Both Comey and Mueller know each other for 15 years and the former FBI director gave the memos to the latter because he knew Mueller would launch a probe into whether Trump obstructed justice by urging Comey to end investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn's connections to Russian Federation.

Earlier, President Trump began his day with a stream of tweets defending his record and lashing out at the investigation into Russian interference in the election.

But it was Rosenstein who later appointed Robert Mueller as a special counsel to oversee the investigation into Russia's election meddling and any possible ties to the Trump campaign.

On Sunday, Trump again referred to the probe, but dismissed it.

However, the FBI has not confirmed that Trump's son-in-law was under the bureau's investigation at any point.

Oddly enough, Boente was acting deputy attorney general when Sessions recused himself, and until Rosenstein was appointed.

The letter said the investigation will also probe Comey's testimony that Loretta Lynch, as President Barack Obama's attorney general, had directed him to describe an FBI probe into Hillary Clinton's email practices as merely a "matter" and to avoid calling it an investigation.

Officials familiar with the matter describe friction on the Justice Department's fourth and fifth floors, home to the suite of offices belonging to the deputy attorney general and the attorney general, respectively, in part because of Rosenstein's handling of the Russian Federation matter. All week, some of Trump's most ardent defenders, including his son Donald Trump Jr., his White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and friend and occasional adviser Newt Gingrich have questioned the probe in similar ways.

Others have pointed to news that Mueller interviewed with Trump for the Federal Bureau of Investigation director post after Comey's firing.

"I would give him the chance to see if he could do that because if there's nothing there, so you're not gonna find anything anyway", Carson said.

A close Trump associate said this week the president was considering firing Mueller, although the White House later denied it.

President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump, and their son and Barron Trump, walk to Marine One across the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, Saturday, June 17, 2017, en route to Camp David in Maryland. The order also covers separate inquiries into several key Trump associates including former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, campaign adviser Paul Manafort, foreign policy aide Carter Page and outside adviser Roger Stone. "If that happens Mike Pence will soon become the 46th President". Separately, Coats is scheduled to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee in a closed session Thursday.

The Trump administration late Wednesday declined to comment about The Post's obstruction-of-justice report.
