Donald Trump 'not being investigated'

Rubio says best to let Russia probe proceed

To hear Sekulow tell it, if the president speaks to anyone who's passed a bar exam, that person should "respect the attorney-client privilege" and never divulge the contents of that conversation.

Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, attorney Jay Sekulow said the "president is not under investigation by the special counsel". So which is it? Based in part on the people he is hiring to assist in the probe, some wonder whether he may lean toward a less-than-objective investigation, at the president's expense.

Sekulow says that Trump hasn't been notified of any investigation. The FBI was prepared to cast a wide net-and now that the investigation is being headed by a special counsel, there are no limits to how wide it will be.

"I don't know about July 4, but I do believe it can get done", Rubio said. Kenneth Starr started out in 1994 charged with looking into the Clintons' Whitewater real estate dealings. But Trump later acknowledged that he had already made up his mind to fire Comey before receiving the Rosenstein recommendation and that he dismissed Comey because of "this Russia thing", believing that the probe of Russian interference in the election was an excuse being used by Democrats to explain Clinton's stunning upset loss.

A member of the president's outside legal team says Donald Trump is not under federal investigation.

But a new worry about Mueller is taking shape. They may not answer if they are trying to build a case and develop further evidence.

The Post, in fact, states in its article about what it sees as an unlikely alliance, that Rubio's membership on the Senate Intelligence Committee investigating Russian influence in the 2016 presidential race could be a factor.

"Less than a year and half ago, an American president landed in Havana, to outstretch his hand to a regime", he said.

That would not solve his problems, of course. However, it's important to note that the future of Trump's presidency may have little to do with whether there was a prosecutable violation of the law involved his handling of the Russian Federation investigation. The president's response was as it related to "The Washington Post" report. Firing Comey was a grave mistake.

Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said publicly she fears Mr Trump will fire Mr Mueller and Mr Rosenstein, only five weeks after firing James Comey.

Mr Mueller is also looking at whether, if any potential offences were committed, Mr Trump or others attempted to cover them up or obstruct the investigation into them, said one USA official on Thursday who is familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity. Trump surely understands that would be a political disaster.

Rosenstein finds himself in a spot as he could face the President anger or answer questions about his own future role supervising Mueller when he could become a witness in the special counsel's probe. Cohen has worked for Trump since the mid-2000s and was active in the campaign. But America's laws today are a web in which even the most innocuous citizen can get tangled-a citizen who has business dealings with figures as corrupt as many Russian businessmen and officials tend to be is nearly certainly open to prosecution on one technicality or another, as is anyone who talks to federal investigators and tells even the smallest of lies. What is clear is that he could order the Justice Department to ax Mueller, which may result in Rosenstein's departure and would certainly intensify the uproar over the investigation.
