Donald Trump's lawyer contradicts President's claim that he is under investigation

After the Fox News anchor pressed Sekulow over whether Trump was going to fire deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein and Mueller, Sekulow attempted to end the line of questioning.

Trump said on Twitter, calling the probe into him a "Witch Hunt".

The Post reported that Robert Mueller, who is overseeing the FBI's probe into Russia's meddling in last year's USA presidential election and possible links with the Trump campaign, has expanded his inquiry to probe whether Trump obstructed justice by firing James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation chief. It was 141 characters - there's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know. We have not received nor are we aware of any investigation into the president of the United States.

Attorney Jay Sekulow spoke with Jake Tapper on CNN to attempt to clear up any miscommunication caused by Trump's tweet.

The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he's attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Russia's election-related hacking.

Representative Adam Schiff, Democrat of California, accused Trump and his allies of seeking to undermine Mueller's inquiry, setting a pretext for potentially firing those leading it. Trump has reportedly told friends that he considered firing Mueller, and the president's tweet Friday appeared aimed at Rosenstein, raising questions about whether he might fire him, too.

However, Sekulow's pronouncements haven't stopped Trump from once more referring to a witch hunt this morning. "I think it's in the best interest of our country that we have a full-scale investigation that looks at everything so that we can move forward".

The Post story cited five people briefed on the interview requests, who said that the current director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, head of the National Security Agency, Mike Rogers, and Rogers's recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett, agreed to be interviewed by Mueller's investigators.

The president suggested on Twitter that he may have taped conversations. Schiff said if the panel can't get an answer then he believes a subpoena will be needed.

Rasmussen said Friday its daily presidential tracking poll that 50% of likely US voters approve of Trump's job performance, while the other 50% disapprove. Sekulow asserted that "the president could not be investigated, or certainly could not be found liable for engaging in an activity he clearly had power to do under the constitution".

Sekulow scrambled to respond to questions about the inaccuracy of Trump's tweet that seemed to corroborate a Post report he called inaccurate.

"What's happening here is the president wants to take down Bob Mueller", Mr. Schiff said.

He sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is conducting its own probe into Russian election meddling. Angus King, an independent from ME, stressed that the probe will likely last for a long time. But legal analysts say few criminal investigations begin with an identified target.

They went a few more rounds before Tapper wondered, "is that not frustrating for you as an attorney to have a client that is sharing information with the world that's not accurate?"

Trump returned to the White House on Sunday after spending Father's Day weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat.
