DUP talks with Tories continue after May meets Arlene Foster

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday was heading into hard talks with a hardline Northern Irish party on securing a working majority after a crushing electoral setback.

Theresa May will meet with Sinn Fein, the Ulster Unionists, the SDLP and Alliance Party in separate engagements at Downing Street on Thursday afternoon.

The Conservative source said both parties were "committed to strengthening the union, combating terrorism, delivering Brexit and delivering prosperity across the whole country", and that Northern Ireland would get a funding boost.

May is set to meet DUP leader Arlene Foster in London on Tuesday but will face demands from the DUP for more money for Northern Ireland. May and Ms. Foster later left through different exits.

Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the opposition Labour Party, which saw its number of parliamentary seats and share of the vote increase, said there could be another election this year or early in 2018 after Thursday's vote produced no clear victor.

Mr Baker heads the European Research Group, a caucus of Eurosceptic MPs who helped to pressurise David Cameron into holding last year's referendum on EU membership.

"It will take us several months to draw out the conditions of an orderly withdrawal.so let's not waste time", he said.

Pakistan's path to Champions Trophy glory
We all know what happens behind the scenes. "So to dust ourselves off and come back from that was a remarkable achievement". They had an awesome tournament. "We can't take anyone lightly but they were more intense and passionate on the day".

"She said "I'm the person who got us into this mess and I'm the one who is going to get us out of it", said one Conservative lawmaker who attended the meeting. The Evening Standard, edited by ex-Treasury chief George Osborne, is reporting that Cabinet ministers have initiated talks with Labour lawmakers.

Barnier held "talks about talks" with May's Brexit advisor Olly Robbins and British EU ambassador Tim Barrow in Brussels on Monday but they failed to agree on a date for the negotiations to begin, an EU official said.

However, the prospect of a deal between the two parties has caused disquiet, with the DUP's anti-abortion and gay rights stance in the crosshairs.

But Irish nationalists Sinn Fein have voiced concerns a tie-up could destabilise politics in Northern Ireland and undermine the British government's neutrality in overseeing talks to form a new power-sharing government for the province.

The proposed deal would see the DUP back the Conservatives in votes on the Budget and confidence motions.

The prime minister's talks with the DUP came amid further pressure for a softening of her approach to Brexit and a call from former Conservative leader William Hague for a cross-party commission to direct her negotiating strategy.
